That's The Way We Became The Sheldon Bunch...

Here's a story, of a lovely lady,
Who was bringing up two very lovely girls.
The youngest one has hair just like her mothers,
The oldest one has curls.
Here's a story, of a man named Sheldon,
Who was busy the three kids of his own.
It was the four of them living all together,
Yet they were all alone.
Then the one day when this lady met this fellow,
And they knew that it was much more than a hunch.
That this group must somehow form a family,
That's the way they all became the Sheldon Bunch.
The Sheldon Bunch, The Sheldon Bunch...
That's the way they all became the Sheldon Bunch.

First let me tell you a little about my family. David and I were both single parents who were left raising our children all alone. We were both subscribed to an internet match-making service and that was how we came to know each other. He lived in Minnesota (Minneapolis suburbs) and I lived in Texas (El Paso). We found ourselves attracted to each other and wanted to meet in person and learn more. I left my kids, Erika (8 at the time) and Taylor (4 at the time), with my parents and went to Minnesota to meet him. That was in Dec. of 1999 right after Christmas. I spent about a week with him and his children; Jodi (8 at the time), Luke (6 at the time), and Sydney (4 at the time). We spent New Years together and fell helplessly and hopelessly in love. By January 15 of 2000, I had packed up my children and myself in El Paso and headed North to the beginning of the rest of our lives. David and I spent another year living together and getting to know one another and each other's children. We decided that we had to make our two family household into one big family. On Dec. 15, 2000, David and I got married and began a new life once again. Our children had no problems accepting the new family life. However, we were a little crowded and far from family. In November of 2001 we decided to sell the house we had in Minnesota and move back to Texas. We searched high and low online for houses in the town of Robert Lee (where my father lives). We came across several and then found one we wanted to look into a little further. The house is in a great location, right across from the school and it had a nice big yard. My parents went to the house and did a walk-through for us. They took a few pictures and we were sold. We talked to the owner, who was willing to Owner finance the house and drew up the papers… keep in mind that we still had not physically seen or set foot in the house or on the property. We sealed the deal with a verbal handshake over the phone. So, over the hills and through the woods to Robert Lee, TX we went...LOL! We have now been in Robert Lee for 5 years.

Our love for these little goats started when our daughter, Jodi (15 at the time and a Sophomore in High School), decided she wanted to show a goat in the stock show. Well, my parents have a couple of goats, a Spanish/Bore crossed Buck and two Boer does. They have had several offspring and these babies were HUGE! We discussed it and decided that we did not want something that big living in our yard! So I began my search for the perfect little goat. When I did so, I came across a site that said something about these "mini" goats. I went to the site and fell in love immediately. However, there was no way I could afford a "registered" Nigerian dwarf goat. I researched these little goats and found out a lot of information. I learned that these goats are dairy goats and that Jodi would be able to show one of these goats in our County Stock Show. However, our little stock show is quite small and there is not a separate division for "dairy" goats. So, she would have to show it with the lightweight meat goats. Well, needless to say, we found a little doeling, "pet quality… which just means not registered," and Jodi bought her with her own money that she had been saving. Jodi showed her little goat in the Coke County Stock Show and, of course, got last place, because there is no comparison to the size of a Nigerian Dwarf goat and a Boer or Boer cross. The little goat did not stand a chance at placing in a show that was not set up for Nigerians. But it was a great experience for Jodi and we have come to acquire a couple of registered Nigerians in the process. They are great… We all love these little goats and cannot wait to start having babies of our own. Thank you Jodi for bringing these little bundles of joy into our family. Even though I did a LOT of research and even found the goat for you… you are the reason we have them. You're the greatest!
